Printed from the original artwork created using a 0.1mm black ink, fine tip drawing pen.  The image is based on a reference photo taken during a tour in Alaska and if you want a cute subject to photograph, Sea Otters are a great choice to go for!  For me , this shot captured their social nature and continues to remind me that it’s good to take a break once in a while.

My pointillism work is normally based on reference photos because I like to aim for a realistic result at the end.  However, I don’t map the work out on a grid and sketch it out in light pencil first (although sometimes I think maybe I should!).  I pick a starting point, which is normally an eye for animals and people, and work out from there.  I find it helps me to quickly get a sense of whether the piece is working or not – and making a mistake with permanent black ink is exactly that… permanent!

The pictures in the gallery for this print include an illustration of what it may look like when framed and hung on the wall.  A frame definitely sets the image off but, of course, you can put your stamp on it by matching the right frame for your room.
